An Analysis on Capital Punishment
Introduction
I was given an assignment to write an essay and being the student of HR I am always interested in studying about topics pertaining to human psychology. Thus I chose the topic of capital punishment and what prompts the lawful bodies to take such drastic measures. How this effects the fabric of society in maintaining law and order and how it effects adversely when the accused is innocent but is punished due to supporting evidence. I asked my father for help regarding this assignment as he narrated stories involving capital punishment and how it affected crime rate.
Reflection
This assignment proved to be a learning experience in regards of critical thinking as I was required not to think only from the perspective of law making bodies but from various other perspectives. I exercised my critical abilities to draw conclusions from the data I gathered. I would say the topic was quite tricky as I had to study it from different sources and build my opinion about the capital punishment and its consequences for the guilty as well as innocent. This challenge to access both the sides of given issue helped me polis my skill of judgement which is the crux of critical thinking. If I did this again I would try and meet the families of victims and the families of criminal charged with capital punishment to access the impact of capital punishment on associated lives of both of them. For anyone else doing the same assignment I would suggest they take some other topic as this one has a lot of legal and social aspects that may cause a threat to a student.
Staff Issues Case study:
Introduction
In this project, we were given a case study to solve where a company was suffering because of the poor performance of its staff. We studied the case thoroughly and tried to understand the reasons behind the poor performance. We also contacted certain employees of that company to have their opinion on this issue. The development of critical thinking skills is very important as it helps in understanding the issues logically and setting strategies to solve the problems without creating conflicts.
Reflection:
The case study helped me in developing problem-solving skills in my personality. I got a chance to apply the strategies personally on this task which I have always studied on text books and listened from my teachers. I learned to make logical strategies because of which I confidently and unbiasedly solved the issue. If I repeat this assignment, I will learn some more theories of decision making to better understand the problems. I suggest others to study thoroughly all the theories before starting with any problem.
Comparison of Liberals and Conservatives:
Introduction
In this assignment of critical thinking, we were given an assignment in which we had to present a comparison in between liberals and conservatives. The purpose of this assignment was to make the students learn the strategies to evaluate both the concepts thoroughly, understand their effects on the society and give a favorable conclusion to both the concepts. I studied both the terms thoroughly and read many articles on how the media is playing with the minds of new generation which is the reason behind this diverse thinking.
Reflection:
This assignment gave me an idea about the difference of thinking pattern among individuals. I learned to weigh the opinions and concepts of the different type of thinkers and learned a lot about their effects on society as well because of which I was able to come out to a fair conclusion in the end. If I ever get a chance to repeat this assignment, I will try to be clearer with my point of view on both the concepts which was not clear in this one. I would also advise other students who will be doing similar assignments to understand the concepts first before prioritizing anyone.
Ways to Utilize Electricity Efficiently
Introduction
We were assigned to conduct a research over topic of our choice so I chose to research the consumption of electricity in everyday condition in Saudi Arabian household. The results helped me come up with some recommendations regarding saving the energy. I critically investigated the factors like when and how much electricity was being used so that I can suggest how and when its usage can be reduced. One of my basic observation was that most citizens were used to the comforts and were not willing to reduce their consumption of electricity at all. They do not even agree to the fact that it’s being wasted. So in my opinion, we need to drive awareness in the people about the importance of electrical energy and its misuse.
Reflection:
This assignment led me to build my judgment on the topic thus it helped me improve my critical analysis and thinking abilities. I faced two major challenges while doing this assignment. First, it was difficult to gather factual data so I observed the consumption pattern in my house and neighboring houses. Secondly, coming up with recommendations that people would be willing to adopt proved to be a challenge as they didn’t even acknowledge that the issue existed. I critically analyzed the situation repeatedly to identify any means of controlling the consumption. To other students attempting the same research, I would suggest to phrase their question indirectly as people amend their answers to be socially agreeable and the strength of research result would be compromised.
